BG3 Stats Reveal Player Choices: Romance, Cheese, and More

Larian Studios celebrated Baldur's Gate 3's anniversary by unveiling a fascinating collection of player statistics, showcasing diverse gameplay choices and preferences. These stats, shared on X (formerly Twitter), offer a captivating glimpse into the community's adventures in the Forgotten Realms.

Romantic Encounters in the Forgotten Realms

The statistics reveal romance played a significant role for many players. A staggering 75 million companion kisses were recorded, with Shadowheart leading the pack at 27 million, followed by Astarion (15 million) and Minthara (169,937). Act 1's celebratory night saw 32.5% of players choosing Shadowheart, 13.5% opting for Karlach, and 15.6% choosing solitude. By Act 3, Shadowheart's popularity continued, with 48.8% experiencing her final romance scene, compared to 17.6% with Karlach and 12.9% with Lae'zel.

More adventurous players engaged in intimate encounters with Halsin (658,000 players), favoring his human form (70%) over his bear form (30%). An impressive 1.1 million players pursued romance with the Emperor, with a preference for the Dream Guardian form (63%) over the mind flayer tentacles (37%).

Whimsical Adventures and Quirky Choices

Beyond the romance, players indulged in humorous activities. 1.9 million players transformed into cheese wheels, while 3.5 million befriended dinosaurs and 2 million freed Us from the Colony, showcasing a fondness for unconventional quests. Remarkably, 3,777 Dark Urge players spared Alfira, unexpectedly contributing to the game's lute rock prevalence.

Animal companions also received considerable attention. Scratch, the loyal canine, garnered over 120 million pets, likely due to his impeccable fetching skills. The Owlbear Cub received over 41 million pets. Interestingly, 141,600 players attempted to pet the Emperor's cat – the same number who conquered Honour Mode, a curious statistical coincidence.

Character Creation and Class/Race Preferences

A significant 93% of players created custom avatars, highlighting the appeal of personalized heroes. Among pre-made characters, Astarion (1.21 million players), Gale (1.20 million), and Shadowheart (0.86 million) were the most popular choices. 15% of custom avatars were based on the enigmatic Dark Urge.

The Paladin class dominated, with almost 10 million players, followed closely by the Sorcerer and Fighter classes (both over 7.5 million). Other classes, including Barbarian, Rogue, Warlock, Monk, and Druid, also had substantial representation. Elves were the most popular race (over 12.5 million), followed by Half-Elves and Humans (both 12.5 million). Tieflings, Drow, and Dragonborn also exceeded 7.5 million choices.

Specific class-race combinations were also favored. Dwarves frequently chose Paladin (20%), while Dragonborn leaned towards Sorcerer. Halflings favored Bard and Rogue, aligning with their cultural traits. Gnomes preferred Bards and Druids, and Tieflings balanced between Paladin, Barbarian, and Warlock.

Epic Achievements and Diverse Endings

141,660 players conquered Honour Mode, demonstrating exceptional skill. Conversely, 1,223,305 playthroughs ended in defeat, with 76% of defeated players deleting their saves and 24% continuing in custom mode.

Players faced difficult choices, with 1.8 million betraying the Emperor, 329,000 convincing Orpheus to remain a mind flayer, and 3.3 million killing the Netherbrain (including 200,000 with Gale's sacrifice). A rare outcome saw 34 players experience Avatar Lae'zel's self-sacrifice after rejection by Vlaakith.

The anniversary statistics paint a vibrant picture of Baldur's Gate 3's diverse community, showcasing a wide range of gameplay styles, choices, and achievements. From romantic encounters to whimsical escapades, the journey through the Forgotten Realms has been truly extraordinary.
