Pokemon GO Accidentally Reveals Upcoming Legendary Dynamax Raids

by Aurora Jan 29,2025

Upcoming Dynamax Raids in Pokémon GO: Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno

A leaked tweet from the official Pokémon GO Saudi Arabia Twitter account, subsequently deleted, revealed the imminent arrival of Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno in Dynamax Raids. The event is reportedly scheduled from January 20th to February 3rd. This would mark the first appearance of legendary Pokémon in Dynamax Raid form within the game.

Dynamax Pokémon were introduced to Pokémon GO in September 2024, but this would be a significant expansion, featuring these highly popular Kanto legendary birds. While the original trio, and their Shiny variants, have appeared in raids previously, and their Galarian counterparts in Daily Incense (albeit with lower spawn rates), this Dynamax iteration represents a new addition to the game.

The leak, spotted by Reddit user nintendo101, suggests a possible strategy to boost the popularity of Max Raids, which have faced criticism from some players due to their difficulty, particularly the requirement of 40 players for successful completion. The introduction of legendary Dynamax Pokémon could potentially alleviate these concerns, although the difficulty of these new raids remains unconfirmed.

This news follows a flurry of recent Pokémon GO announcements, including:

  • Community Day Classic (January 25th): Featuring Ralts.
  • Shadow Raid Day (January 19th): Featuring Shadow Ho-Oh, with up to seven free Raid Passes available.
  • Pokémon GO Fest 2025 Host Cities: Osaka, Jersey City, and Paris.

The inclusion of Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno in Dynamax Raids could foreshadow the arrival of other iconic legendary Pokémon in Dynamax form in future events. Previous games, such as Pokémon Sword and Shield, featured Dynamax versions of Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, and others, suggesting a potential trend for Pokémon GO.
