Analyst Predicts Nintendo Switch 2 Sales for 2025

Nintendo Switch 2: Analyst Forecasts 4.3 Million US Sales in 2025

Gaming analyst Mat Piscatella projects robust sales for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, estimating approximately 4.3 million units sold in the US during 2025, contingent on a first-half launch. This prediction echoes the original Switch's impressive 4.8 million unit sales by the end of 2017, a figure that exceeded Nintendo's initial projections and necessitated air-freighting additional consoles to meet demand. The hope is that Nintendo has learned from past supply chain challenges and will adequately prepare for the Switch 2's launch.

While considerable buzz surrounds the Switch 2 across social media, translating this hype into actual sales remains uncertain. Success hinges on several crucial factors, most notably launch timing and the console's game library. A pre-summer launch, potentially around April 2025, could capitalize on key holiday periods like Japan's Golden Week, boosting sales significantly.

Piscatella's forecast positions the Switch 2 to capture roughly one-third of the US console market in 2025 (excluding handheld PCs like the Steam Deck). He anticipates potential supply constraints due to high initial demand, but acknowledges the uncertainty surrounding Nintendo's manufacturing capacity. The company may have proactively addressed potential shortages, mirroring their response to the original Switch and PS5 launches.

Despite the positive outlook for the Switch 2, Piscatella predicts the PlayStation 5 will retain its leading position in US console sales. While the Switch 2's hype is a significant factor, the anticipated release of major titles like Grand Theft Auto 6 on the PS5 could significantly impact sales. Ultimately, the Switch 2's performance will depend heavily on the console's hardware capabilities and the strength of its initial game lineup. The level of excitement is undeniable, but whether it translates to market dominance remains to be seen.
