Obsidian Entertainment's Avowed promises players a deeply immersive experience, offering "constant opportunities to shape your character and their path," through its complex, multi-ending gameplay. In an interview with Game Developer, game director Carrie Patel highlighted the significance of every player choice, emphasizing that even seemingly minor decisions contribute to the overall narrative.

"It's about providing players with continuous opportunities to express themselves and explore their character's alignment," Patel explained. She further stressed the importance of player engagement, stating, "The game encourages players to reflect on their experience, asking themselves: 'When am I engaged? When am I curious? When does my interest wane? What keeps me invested?'"

Patel added that the consequences of choices in Avowed are directly tied to exploration within the rich world of Eora, particularly the politically charged Living Lands. "I've enjoyed weaving together the narratives of these two worlds," she commented.

Players assume the role of an Aedyran Empire envoy, tasked with investigating a spiritual plague while simultaneously pursuing their own political ambitions. "Giving players rich content to explore—that's what makes for meaningful roleplaying," Patel noted. "It's about defining who you want to be in this world and how your actions reflect that identity."

Beyond the intricate RPG mechanics, Avowed features strategic combat blending magic, swords, and firearms. "The diverse abilities and weapon combinations available create a unique experience with each playthrough," Patel confirmed.

Furthermore, Patel confirmed to IGN the existence of numerous endings, each with "a multitude of variations." She elaborated, "We have a double-digit number of ending slides, and they can combine in many ways. Being an Obsidian game, your ending truly reflects the sum of your choices throughout the game, shaped by the content you encounter and your actions within it."
