Buried Alchemy Unearthed: Resleriana's Polar Night Closure

by Eleanor Feb 19,2025

Atelier Resleriana's servers are shutting down on March 28th, less than a year after its global launch. Koei Tecmo cited an inability to maintain their desired quality standards as the reason for the closure. In-app purchases have already ended as of January 27th.

The announcement, while perhaps unsurprising to some given the competitive gacha market, has prompted a wave of player disappointment. The game, while featuring promising concepts like alchemy, struggled with criticized gacha rates and less-than-engaging gameplay, ultimately failing to stand out amongst its competitors. While players have requested an offline version, its feasibility remains uncertain.

Key issues contributing to the game's closure included:

  • Controversial Gacha Rates: Players frequently voiced frustration over the gacha system and banner rates.
  • Underwhelming Alchemy Mechanics: The core alchemy system, a hallmark of the Atelier series, failed to deliver the expected level of creative depth and engagement.
  • Lackluster Gameplay: While functional, the gameplay loop wasn't compelling enough to attract and retain players in a crowded market.

Despite ongoing efforts to improve the game through updates and events, the developers concluded that continued operation was unsustainable. Players are encouraged to enjoy the remaining time before the servers go offline. For those seeking alternative JRPG experiences, a list of top Android JRPGs is available.
