MercurySteam, the Spanish studio behind acclaimed titles like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid Dread, has revealed its next ambitious project: Blades of Fire, an action-RPG. Partnering with 505 Games, this dark fantasy adventure plunges players into a world teeming with enigmatic races and terrifying creatures.
The debut trailer showcases exhilarating hack-and-slash combat, a distinctive visual style, and a richly atmospheric, shadowy setting. Gameplay and art design draw clear inspiration from Lords of Shadow, while environmental details and enemy designs echo the aesthetic of Darksiders. Intriguingly, the trailer also features a mechanical bird, hinting at a traversal mechanic the protagonist will likely utilize to explore the game world.
Developed using MercurySteam's proprietary Mercury Engine, Blades of Fire aims to sidestep the optimization challenges frequently associated with Unreal Engine 5 projects.
Prepare for release on May 22, 2025, across current-gen consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) and PC (via the Epic Games Store).
