A Knight of Decay: Xbox Brings Avowed’s Plague to London

A colossal statue of a decaying knight, his armor ravaged by time and adorned with unsettling, realistic mushrooms, has materialized in London. This striking installation, a chilling testament to the plague sweeping Avowed's world, is the work of Xbox. It serves as both a captivating art piece and a stark warning, immersing onlookers in the grim reality of the Dreamscourge infection. Accompanying posters promoting the Xbox Series X|S game further enhance the scene, transforming a typical London street into a gateway to Avowed's dark fantasy realm.

Xbox has released a behind-the-scenes video on YouTube, offering fans an exclusive glimpse into the creation of this unique promotional stunt.

Pre-launch Steam reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, with 81% of Deluxe Edition players recommending the game, generating considerable anticipation for today's Standard Edition release.

Industry veteran Jason Schreier lauded Avowed, highlighting its compelling world design, narrative, and combat system. However, he particularly praised the game's exploration:

"Avowed has completely captivated me. Obsidian's storytelling and combat are excellent, as expected, but the world design is truly exceptional. Every path leads somewhere, every rooftop is accessible, and hidden details abound. Even after 40 hours, I'm still exploring."

Schreier also acknowledged a divergence in opinions between critics and players, drawing parallels to Fallout: New Vegas:

"Some reviews are surprising. It's reminiscent of Fallout: New Vegas—critics were divided, yet players elevated it to legendary status. Avowed might follow a similar path."

Fallout: New Vegas, initially scoring 83 on Metacritic, eventually achieved undisputed classic status. Could Avowed be destined for a similar trajectory towards RPG immortality?
