Amadeus Cho: Marvel's Brainy, Powerful Teen Hero

While Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man features a fresh take on Peter Parker, the animated series delves deep into the Marvel Universe. Many supporting characters are based on comic book heroes and villains, including Amadeus Cho, Peter's Oscorp intern. But who is Amadeus Cho, and why is he a significant teen hero? Let's explore.

Who is Amadeus Cho?

Despite his youth, Amadeus Cho is among the Marvel Universe's most intelligent individuals. His brilliance and rebellious nature have often led him into conflict with authority, resulting in a life partially spent evading the law. He's known for his affinity for fugitive heroes like the Hulk and Hercules, and his unwavering loyalty to his friends.

Amadeus's intellect is matched by his physical prowess. He briefly became the Hulk after absorbing Bruce Banner's gamma radiation. Even after the classic Hulk's return, Amadeus continues to fight for justice as Brawn. He's a powerful force for good, regardless of his moniker.

Amadeus Cho's Powers and Abilities

Amadeus possesses exceptional intelligence, officially ranked as the seventh smartest person in the Marvel Universe. His pattern recognition and mental calculation skills are unparalleled. His only drawback is a voracious appetite fueled by intense mental exertion.

As the Hulk, Amadeus gained immense strength, durability, and regenerative abilities. Unlike the classic Hulk, he retains his intelligence and personality, avoiding the rage-monster aspect. Currently operating as Brawn, his power is slightly diminished but still formidable, capable of full Hulk transformations when necessary.

Amadeus Cho's Comic Book History

Created by Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa, Amadeus debuted in 2005's Amazing Fantasy Vol. 2 #15. He gained recognition as the world's seventh smartest man after winning an Excello Soap Company competition. Tragedy struck when the sponsor targeted Amadeus, resulting in his family's death. He went on the run, eventually befriending the Hulk.

Amadeus played a significant role in 2007's World War Hulk crossover, teaming up with Hercules. Their adventures continued in The Incredible Hercules, showcasing their misadventures and eventual rise as respected heroes. They even saved the multiverse from Amatsu-Mikaboshi.

Amadeus Cho Beyond the Comics

Amadeus has appeared in Marvel's animated and video game projects, often as the Hulk. He's a playable character in various games and has been featured in Ultimate Spider-Man and Lego Marvel Super Heroes: Avengers Reassembled, usually as Iron Spider. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man showcases him as a confident scientist and Peter Parker's intern, voiced by Aleks Le. His future as a superhero in the series remains to be seen. His mother's appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron hints at a potential MCU debut.

Amadeus Cho is a complex and compelling character, a brilliant mind with immense power, whose story continues to unfold.
