Nintendo Says It's Taking 'All Possible Measures' to Beat Switch 2 Scalpers

by Thomas Mar 01,2025

Nintendo is gearing up to combat potential Switch 2 launch shortages and thwart scalpers, stating that they are "making preparations." Following the release of its latest financial report, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa addressed concerns about a repeat of the original Switch's 2017 launch shortages.

He confirmed to Nikkei, as translated by VGC, that Nintendo is implementing measures learned from past experiences with scalpers and supply chain issues. "We will take all possible measures based on the experience we have accumulated to date," Furukawa stated.

These preparations likely involve significantly increasing Switch 2 production. Nintendo previously highlighted sufficient manufacturing as crucial to combating scalpers. The initial Switch launch in March 2017 faced supply constraints, driving up prices due to scalping. However, Furukawa emphasized a different approach for the Switch successor, reiterating the importance of meeting consumer demand to prevent this.

He further clarified that while semiconductor shortages impacted Switch production in previous years, this issue is now resolved. A Switch 2 Direct is scheduled for April 2nd, promising further details, alongside planned hands-on events globally.

Addressing declining Switch sales, Furukawa downplayed the impact of consumers delaying purchases in anticipation of the Switch 2, stating that sales remain strong despite not reaching targets. Nintendo plans to continue supporting the original Switch as long as demand persists, with Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond slated for 2025 release.
