Sony addressed the near-day-long PlayStation Network (PSN) outage this past weekend, attributing it to an unspecified "operational issue" in a social media statement. The company offered no further explanation regarding the root cause or preventative measures.
To compensate PlayStation Plus subscribers for the disruption, Sony will automatically add five extra days to their subscriptions.
Gamers experienced widespread problems throughout the outage, with over one-third unable to log in and others reporting server crashes impacting gameplay.
The reliance on PSN accounts, even for single-player PC games, remains a point of contention for many players, and this outage has only amplified their concerns.
This isn't the first major PSN disruption. The April 2011 data breach resulted in over 20 days of connectivity issues. While less severe, the recent outage has left PS5 users frustrated by Sony's lack of detailed communication and transparency.
