Pokémon TCG Announces the Return of Beloved Trainer's Pokémon in 2025

The Pokémon Company made several exciting announcements at the 2024 Pokémon World Championships, including the highly anticipated return of "Trainer's Pokémon" cards to the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) in 2025.

Pokémon TCG Trainer's Pokémon Return

A nostalgic trip back to the early days of the TCG is on the horizon! The announcement, accompanied by a teaser trailer, showcased iconic trainers like Marnie, Lillie, and N alongside their Pokémon partners. The trailer featured Lillie’s Clefairy ex, Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex, N’s Zoroark ex, and N’s Reshiram, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect.

Team Rocket's Possible Return

The teaser also hinted at the potential return of Team Rocket, showing Mewtwo alongside the infamous team's symbol. This has sparked speculation about a dedicated Team Rocket-themed set, or even the comeback of Dark Pokémon, another popular mechanic from the game's early years. These darker, more aggressive versions of familiar Pokémon were closely associated with Team Rocket. While unconfirmed, rumors fueled by Japanese retailer listings and a trademark filing ("The Glory of Team Rocket") suggest this isn't just wishful thinking.

This Japanese subset, focusing on Dragon-type Pokémon, is slated for a November 2024 English release as part of the Surging Sparks set.

Shrouded Fable Concludes Kitikami Chapter

Meanwhile, the current wave of updates is nearing its end. The Kitikami chapter concludes this month with the release of the Shrouded Fable expansion, containing 99 cards (64 main cards and 35 secret rare cards), according to the official Pokémon TCG blog.

The Pokémon TCG community eagerly awaits further details on the return of Trainer's Pokémon and the potential Team Rocket expansion in 2025.
