Squid Game: Unleashed set to receive new characters and events to celebrate season two of the show

by Gabriel Jan 18,2025

Squid Game: Unleashed is celebrating the release of season two with a wave of fresh content! Get ready for new characters, a brand-new map, and exciting challenges. Plus, exclusive rewards await those who watch the new episodes!

Netflix's surprise holiday release of Squid Game: Unleashed, a battle royale game based on the hit Korean drama, was made free to everyone, subscribers and non-subscribers alike. Now, with this new content drop, they're incentivizing non-users to join the fun by offering rewards for watching season two!

What's in store for existing players? Starting January 3rd, a map inspired by the "Mingle" mini-game from Squid Game season two is added. New playable avatars will also debut throughout January, including Geum-Ja, Yong-Sik, and Thanos (the rapper, not the Avenger!).

Geum-Ja and Thanos will each have special in-game events on January 3rd and 9th respectively, offering ways to unlock them. And watching Squid Game season two unlocks in-game Cash and Wild Tokens. Watching up to seven episodes even unlocks the exclusive Binni Binge-Watcher outfit!

Here's the January content calendar for Squid Game: Unleashed:

  • January 3rd: The new "Mingle" map launches alongside Geum-Ja. The "Dalgona Mash Up Collection Event" begins, challenging players to complete Mingle-inspired mini-games and collect Dalgona tins (runs until January 9th).
  • January 9th: Thanos enters the game, accompanied by his "Thanos’ Red Light Challenge" recruitment event. Players must eliminate opponents using knives to unlock him (runs until January 14th).
  • January 16th: Yong-Sik arrives as the final character addition in this update.

Squid Game: Unleashed could be a game-changer for Netflix's gaming ambitions. The free-to-play model was a bold move, but rewarding Netflix subscribers and encouraging viewing is a shrewd strategy to boost both the game and the show's popularity.
