Following its global reveal during last week's State of Play, Tides of Annihilation unveils an extended gameplay trailer, offering a deeper look at its upcoming action-packed adventure. Discover more about this highly anticipated title below.

Exploring a Post-Apocalyptic London

Initially showcased at PlayStation's State of Play event, the hack-and-slash action-adventure game, Tides of Annihilation, has generated significant buzz with its newly released extended gameplay trailer.

The trailer presents early gameplay featuring Gwendolyn and her shape-shifting sword companion, Niniane, navigating the ruins of a devastated, otherworldly London, ravaged by an Outworld invasion. Their journey through crumbling streets is fraught with enemy encounters. Gwendolyn's ability to summon a squad of over ten legendary knights, inspired by King Arthur's Round Table, is also revealed.

After overcoming obstacles and traversing a magical portal, the duo faces a challenging boss battle against Mordred, whose conflicting objectives set him against Gwendolyn. The intense boss fight highlights the game's dynamic combat system, underscored by a haunting choral soundtrack.

According to producer Kun Fu on PlayStation.Blog, the combat system offers "intuitive co-op combat within a single-player experience." Players can summon two spectral knights at a time, each with unique combat roles, requiring strategic decision-making. "The interaction between Gwendolyn and the knights creates a dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply engaging combat experience. It's a system our team (veterans from leading game studios) fell in love with during internal testing."

Echoes of Devil May Cry and Bayonetta

Tides of Annihilation: Stunning Visuals and Fluid Combat

Online viewers have praised the trailer's art direction, art style, fluid hack-and-slash combat, and overall gameplay, drawing comparisons to classic titles like Devil May Cry (DMC) and Bayonetta, as well as more recent games such as Elden Ring, NieR: Automata, Stellar Blade, and Final Fantasy 16. The enthusiastic response highlights the game's "immense potential" and has many anticipating its release.

Tides of Annihilation, the debut title from Chengdu-based Eclipse Glow Games, blends Arthurian legend with an alternate reality modern London. Players assume the role of Gwendolyn, a survivor in a post-apocalyptic world. While a specific release date is yet to be announced, the game is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
