Transformers: Reactivate Canceled by Splash Damage

Splash Damage, the developer behind the anticipated Transformers: Reactivate, has announced the game's cancellation after a prolonged and challenging development cycle. This decision, while difficult, may unfortunately lead to staff layoffs.

The Game Awards 2022 initially showcased Transformers: Reactivate, a 1-4 player online game featuring Autobots and Decepticons uniting against a new alien threat. While leaks suggested a Generation 1 roster (Ironhide, Hot Rod, Starscream, Soundwave, Optimus Prime, and Bumblebee) and potential Beast Wars inclusions, the project ultimately failed to materialize.

Splash Damage's statement expressed gratitude to the development team and Hasbro for their support. Fan reactions are varied, with some expressing disappointment, while others anticipated the cancellation given the lack of updates since the 2022 trailer.

The studio is now fully committed to "Project Astrid," a AAA open-world survival game utilizing Unreal Engine 5, a project announced in March 2023 in collaboration with streamers Shroud and Sacriel. Resource allocation will shift towards "Project Astrid," but the cancellation of Transformers: Reactivate will unfortunately result in job losses within Splash Damage. The Transformers fanbase remains without a new AAA title.
