In *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power is key to mastering the game's challenges. One of the intricate systems you'll encounter is anointing, which can significantly boost your gear and abilities. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to anoint in *Path of Exile 2*.
Anointing becomes available later in the game as you'll need Distilled Emotions, which are obtained from Delirium Maps. If you're familiar with the original game, think of Distilled Emotions as akin to Blight Oils. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions you can collect: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.
The primary method to acquire Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random selection of these emotions. Alternatively, you can obtain them through currency exchange or the trade market, offering a bit more flexibility in your collection efforts.
To upgrade your Distilled Emotions, you'll use the Reforging Bench. Combining three of the same type will produce an upgraded version of that emotion, allowing you to tailor your collection to your needs.
For those seeking a challenge, Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions. However, this method is less efficient than Delirium Maps and requires a robust build to tackle the increased difficulty.
Anointing can be applied to both Waystones and amulets. Given that *Path of Exile 2* is still in Early Access, future updates might expand anointing options. To anoint an amulet, select a Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. The choice of emotion here is inconsequential. Place the amulet in the central box and then position three Distilled Emotions in the bottom boxes. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing ability are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller to view the requirements.
The skills you choose to anoint will vary based on your build, and remember, this effect isn't permanent. You can re-anoint an amulet by repeating the process, allowing the new skill to override the old one, thus adapting to your evolving build.
Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to increase their difficulty, which in turn can yield better loot. However, keep in mind that neither amulets nor Waystones can be anointed if they are corrupted.
With this knowledge, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, tailoring your build for optimal performance, or challenging yourself by anointing a Waystone in *Path of Exile 2*.
*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
