Antarah: The Game, a new 3D action-adventure title, breathes new life into the legendary Arabian folkloric hero. While video game adaptations of historical figures often fall short, Antarah shows promise of being a notable exception.
Antarah ibn Shaddad al-Absias, a poet-knight, is a figure comparable to King Arthur, renowned in pre-Islamic lore for his trials in pursuit of his beloved, Abla. The game's gameplay, reminiscent of Prince of Persia, features the hero traversing vast deserts and cities, battling numerous enemies. Despite its minimalist graphics, the scale of the mobile game is impressive.
While visually appealing, the game's apparent lack of environmental diversity is a concern. Trailers primarily showcase a repetitive orange desert landscape. Although the animation is well-executed, the narrative's unfolding remains unclear—a crucial element for a historical drama.
Available on iOS, Antarah: The Game invites players to judge for themselves whether it successfully immerses them in the world of pre-Islamic Arabian folklore. For more expansive open-world adventures, explore our curated list of the top 15 best adventure games for Android and iOS.
