Assassin's Creed enthusiasts who encountered difficulties launching their games after a recent Windows update can now breathe a sigh of relief. Ubisoft has released patches specifically designed to resolve the issues faced by Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla following the Windows 11 24H2 update. However, some Ubisoft titles, such as Assassin's Creed Odyssey, may still be experiencing problems.
Windows regularly rolls out updates to enhance user experience, and the 24H2 update for Windows 11 introduced features like Wi-Fi 7 support, improved energy-saving modes, and AI Copilot+ PC capabilities. Unfortunately, shortly after its release, some gamers reported that certain games, including entries from the Assassin's Creed series, were unable to start or were malfunctioning. The newly released patches aim to rectify these issues for two of Ubisoft's popular titles.
Ubisoft has confirmed that both Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla have been updated to address the problems triggered by the Windows 11 24H2 update. These updates should automatically download via Steam, ensuring that the games launch without hitches. Players should prepare some storage space beforehand; the patch for Origins requires 230 MB, while Valhalla's update needs 500 MB.
The exact cause within the Windows 11 24H2 update that led to the malfunctioning of certain Ubisoft games remains unclear. While the community appreciates the fixes for Origins and Valhalla, there's ongoing frustration as other titles, including Assassin's Creed Odyssey, have yet to receive similar updates. Odyssey, like its counterparts, may become unresponsive or fail to launch altogether. Ubisoft has managed to mitigate the most severe issues with other games like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora through previous hotfixes, but some performance issues may still linger. Fans of Assassin's Creed Odyssey might want to delay updating to Windows 11 until a fix is available for their game.
While steps are being taken to address these issues, it's disappointing that they occurred in the first place. Players reported problems with various games when the Windows 24H2 update preview was released five months earlier, yet these issues persisted into the official rollout. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11 as soon as possible. Fortunately, the majority of games appear to have been unaffected by the update.
