The Battle of Hulao Gate marks the final stage of Chapter 2 in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*, with the ultimate objective of defeating Dong Zhuo. Reaching him is no easy feat and will likely be the longest mission you've faced so far.

As the mission starts, focus on capturing the four enemy bases located in the bottom right of the map. After securing two of them, a cutscene will trigger, showing a mounted cavalry charging towards your position. Don't let this distract you from your primary goal. As you proceed to conquer each base, you'll naturally encounter and defeat this cavalry. If you manage to take down their commander, Zhang Liao, you'll earn the twin pike weapon, a valuable addition to your arsenal.

Once all bases are under your control, you're ready to assault the gate, initiating your first major clash with Dong Zhuo’s forces. This battle can be chaotic, but your priority should be to protect Cao Cao until he executes his Grand Tactic. Once he does, many of the enemy defenses will weaken, allowing you to advance further toward Hulao Gate.

Lu Bu Appears

At this crucial juncture, Dong Zhuo will deploy Lu Bu to the frontline. It's essential to avoid engaging Lu Bu in direct combat. A one-on-one fight with him is a recipe for disaster, as he will swiftly overpower you. Instead, focus on eliminating enemy officers on the periphery of the battlefield to maintain your morale, which Lu Bu’s presence significantly undermines.

Lu Bu will eventually move towards your main base to confront Yuan Shao. While it's tempting to intervene, remember a key strategy in *Dynasty Warriors* games – never pursue Lu Bu. Liu Bei and his forces will attempt to delay him, buying you time to focus on defeating Dong Zhuo. This situation creates a time-sensitive challenge; Liu Bei’s army can't hold Lu Bu indefinitely. When the game informs you of their retreat, ensure you're close to defeating Dong Zhuo. Otherwise, Lu Bu will crush Yuan Shao, ending the mission prematurely.

Go After Dong Zhuo

With Lu Bu distracted, take the opportunity to restock on meat buns at any of your conquered bases for healing, then return to the gate. While Cao Cao prepares for an assault, head north and west to capture additional bases. Once you have three squads ready and are fully healed, enter the closest commander’s circle and launch your attack on Dong Zhuo.

You'll face a massive army as Dong Zhuo unleashes his Grand Tactic of hurling fireballs at you. Your immediate goal is to destroy the front two catapults. If available, activate Musou Rage to charge through the wall of soldiers guarding the catapults. After breaking through, eliminate the soldiers and officers around the catapults and those forming the barricade. This will allow your troops to dismantle the catapults, halting Dong Zhuo's Grand Tactic.

As you advance, Dong Zhuo will initiate another Grand Tactic with fireballs. To end this, you must defeat one of his officers. Head up the right stairs to confront the officer, but be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan, who has joined Dong Zhuo's side. If possible, engage her in a duel. While her quick combos pose a challenge, defeating her will prevent being overwhelmed by fighting both her and the officer simultaneously.

Once you've thwarted this second Grand Tactic, the path to Dong Zhuo should be clear. With your forces' high morale, you can easily overpower his remaining troops. Lu Bu will still be occupied with Liu Bei’s forces, and if Dian Wei initiates a Grand Tactic, it will further simplify your victory over Dong Zhuo. Though it may be tempting to duel him, a straightforward attack will suffice as Dong Zhuo and his forces will be significantly weakened by this point.
