The GeForce RTX 4090, though a generation older than the Blackwell 50 series, remains a powerhouse, outperforming the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. Only the RTX 5090 surpasses it, but finding one at a reasonable price is a near-impossible feat.
With the RTX 4090 discontinued, sourcing it is becoming increasingly difficult. However, Dell offers two pre-built gaming PCs featuring this GPU at competitive prices: the Alienware Aurora R16, starting at $3,299.99, and the Dell Tower Plus, starting at $2,849.99. These represent some of the best current prices for an RTX 4090 system, as many other manufacturers, including Lenovo and HP, no longer offer pre-built PCs with this card.
$3,299.99 at Alienware
This Alienware Aurora R16 boasts an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The processor is upgradeable to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though this is unnecessary for most gamers. The included Intel Core Ultra 7 265F, with its 5.3GHz max turbo frequency and 20 cores, is already a powerful processor. Cooling is handled by a robust 240mm AIO liquid cooler, and the system is powered by a 1000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.
$2,849.99 at Dell (Was $3,149.99)
The Dell Tower Plus offers comparable specs: Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Upgrading the processor to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K for $100 is recommended; it improves the processor and upgrades the cooling solution to a more robust 125W TDP heatsink. Power is provided by a 1000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.
The RTX 4090 is the most powerful RTX 40 series GPU. Only the RTX 5090 (with its $2000 MSRP) offers superior performance. This card easily handles 4K gaming, delivering 60+ fps at max settings with ray tracing, especially with DLSS support. Path tracing remains demanding for all GPUs, but is rarely used outside of benchmarking. While the RTX 5090 is faster, the 4090 excels for most gamers.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke: "The RTX 4090 may be huge and expensive, but it delivers unrivaled frame rates. Even the $1,599 price seems reasonable considering its performance and DLSS 3 capabilities."
