Deltarune Chapter 4 Nears Launch Date

Deltarune Chapter 4 is nearing completion, but fans will still have to wait for its release, according to creator Toby Fox's latest newsletter.

Fox's update reveals significant progress on Chapter 4. All maps are finished and battles are playable, although some polishing remains. Minor adjustments to cutscenes, battle balancing, background art, and ending sequences are still underway. Despite this, Fox considers Chapter 4 largely complete and has received positive feedback from testers.

The simultaneous release of Chapters 3 and 4 on PC, Switch, and PS4, initially slated for a Halloween 2023 release, is facing delays. Fox emphasizes the complexities of multi-platform and multilingual releases, especially since this is the first major paid release since Undertale. Ensuring quality across all platforms and languages necessitates additional development time.

The team's current priorities include:

• Testing new features
• Finalizing PC and console versions
• Japanese localization
• Thorough bug testing

Chapter 3 development is finished, and early work on Chapter 5 has already begun. The newsletter includes snippets of new dialogue, character details for Elnina, and a glimpse at a new item, the GingerGuard. While a specific release date remains unannounced, Fox assures fans that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will exceed the length of the first two chapters.

Though the wait continues, Fox anticipates a smoother release schedule for future chapters once Chapters 3 and 4 launch. The extended development time, while initially disappointing to some, is viewed by many as a testament to the game's expanding scope and commitment to quality.
