Destiny 1 Relaunches with Unexpected Update

A Festive Surprise: Unexpected Decorations Light Up Destiny 1's Tower

Seven years after its initial release, Destiny 1's Tower has received a mysterious and unexpected update, adorned with festive lights and decorations. This surprise, discovered by players on January 5th, has sparked considerable speculation within the community. The original Destiny, while still accessible, largely ceded its prominence to Destiny 2 in 2017, shifting Bungie's focus to its sequel.

While Destiny 2 has flourished with continuous updates and expansions, nostalgia for the original game persists. Bungie has consistently incorporated legacy content into Destiny 2, including classic raids and exotic weapons. However, this unexpected Tower embellishment caught players completely off guard.

The decorations, featuring Ghost-shaped lights reminiscent of past seasonal events like The Dawning, appeared without accompanying quests or in-game announcements. This lack of context fueled theories among players.

A Resurfaced Scrapped Event?

Reddit users, including Breshi, pointed towards a cancelled event, "Days of the Dawning," originally planned for 2016. Unused assets from this scrapped event strikingly resemble the current Tower decorations, suggesting a possible connection. The theory proposes that the decorations were inadvertently scheduled for a future date, a date long after Bungie anticipated Destiny 1's active player base would diminish.

As of this writing, Bungie remains silent on the matter. The year 2017 marked a significant transition for the franchise, with all live events migrating to Destiny 2. This unexpected update in Destiny 1 offers a temporary, unofficial festive experience for players before Bungie potentially removes it. Until then, players can enjoy this unexpected, nostalgic treat.
