Dishonored 2 Gets Surprise Update 9 Years After Launch

Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2: Bug Fixes and Language Updates

Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, has received an unexpected small update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. This minor patch appears focused on bug fixes and language file updates. The update's size is relatively small (230MB), although Xbox users report needing a full 40GB re-download.

Arkane Lyon, the studio behind Dishonored 2 and the recent Deathloop, is currently occupied with development of Marvel's Blade. This update comes as a surprise, particularly given the closure of Arkane Austin (developers of the original Dishonored and Prey) in 2024. Many fans had hoped for a performance enhancement, such as a 60 FPS mode, but this update does not include such improvements.

The lack of a 60 FPS patch is notable, especially considering other Arkane titles offer this option on current-generation consoles. While the original Dishonored and its standalone spin-off, Death of the Outsider, both benefit from performance boosts, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS. A future 60 FPS update for the game's tenth anniversary in 2026 remains a possibility, but a dedicated patch seems unlikely sooner.

The absence of Arkane Austin also impacts the likelihood of a third mainline Dishonored game in the near future. With Arkane Lyon's current focus on Marvel's Blade, a new Dishonored title is likely years away, if it's even in development.
