How Does Dragon Ball Daima’s Finale Explain Goku Never Using Super Saiyan 4 in Super?

by Oliver Mar 19,2025

The climactic battle in Dragon Ball Daima's finale pits Gomah against Goku, showcasing Goku's newly acquired form. Many anticipated this episode would finally explain Super Saiyan 4's absence in Super. So, how does the finale address this?

Episode 19 sees the Z Fighters revert to their adult forms after Glorio's wish. Vegeta's attempt to defeat Gomah, even as a Super Saiyan 3, fails. Goku then unleashes the power Neva granted him, later dubbed "Super Saiyan 4."

In this form, Goku battles Gomah, holding his own. A powerful Kamehameha blasts a hole through Gomah and the Demon Realm, allowing Piccolo to strike. While Piccolo doesn't deliver the final blow, Majin Kuu does, defeating Gomah and freeing the Demon Realm.

The expectation of an explanation for Super Saiyan 4's Demon Realm exclusivity or Neva's unique role is unmet. Goku reveals he attained the form simply through post-Buu training, with no mind-wipe involved, leaving Daima's canon status ambiguous.

Is Dragon Ball Daima Canon to Super?

Ultra Instinct Goku Dragon Ball Super as part of an article about Super Saiyan 4 in Daima.

Super Saiyan 4's introduction raises significant questions about Daima's place in the Dragon Ball canon. Goku's failure to utilize this powerful form against Beerus in Super, especially with Earth's fate at stake, is perplexing. While forgetting is possible, Vegeta's reaction to Goku surpassing him again seems improbable.

However, a post-credits scene offers a potential escape route. Two more Evil Third Eyes remain in the Demon Realm. A potential second season, involving these objects falling into the wrong hands, could provide a mechanism for Super Saiyan 4's return and subsequent loss by Goku. This is speculation, but without such a development, Dragon Ball introduces a major plot hole.

This is how Dragon Ball Daima's finale explains Goku's lack of Super Saiyan 4 in Super. For more, check out the anime's intro song.
