Fortnite Fans Are Unhappy About Massive UI Change

Summary

  • Epic Games' Fortnite quest UI redesign has received significant negative feedback from players.
  • The new system organizes quests into collapsible blocks and submenus, causing navigation difficulties.
  • While new pickaxe options are appreciated, the UI changes are widely considered time-consuming and frustrating.

Epic Games recently implemented major UI changes in Fortnite, sparking considerable backlash from a large segment of the community. This followed the conclusion of the Winterfest event, which featured collaborations with celebrities like Shaq, Snoop Dogg, and Mariah Carey, and rewarded players with free cosmetics.

Chapter 6 Season 1 of Fortnite has been largely well-received, introducing a new map, revamped movement mechanics, and new game modes such as Ballistic, Fortnite OG, and LEGO Fortnite: Brick Life. However, the January 14th update, which included extensive content additions and new cosmetics, also brought a controversial quest UI redesign. Instead of a simple list, quests are now presented in large, collapsible blocks, creating multiple submenus. Although some players initially found the new UI visually appealing, many expressed frustration with its cumbersome navigation.

Fortnite’s New Quest UI Faces Player Backlash

While some players appreciate the consolidated view of quests across different game modes (previously requiring mode switching), the main criticism centers on in-game usability. Players report that the time spent navigating the new menu system during matches—particularly while completing time-sensitive quests like the recent Godzilla challenges—puts them at a significant disadvantage, leading to premature eliminations.

Despite this negative reception to the quest UI, Epic Games' addition of Fortnite Festival instruments as pickaxes and back blings has been positively received, offering players expanded cosmetic choices. Overall, while the UI update has been met with considerable criticism, the game's other recent additions have maintained a generally positive player outlook.
