Doom Slayers Collection Rumored for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Return

The Doom Slayers Collection, a compilation featuring four iconic Doom games, may be making a comeback on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The collection, which was delisted in 2024, has recently received ESRB ratings for these platforms, hinting at a potential re-release. This suggests that the collection, containing remasters of Doom, Doom II, Doom III, and the 2016 Doom reboot, will be available digitally on current-gen consoles. Notably, the ESRB ratings exclude the Nintendo Switch and last-generation consoles.

The original 1993 Doom revolutionized the first-person shooter genre, introducing groundbreaking features like 3D graphics, multiplayer, and mod support. Its enduring legacy makes this potential return particularly significant. The delisting of the digital version in August 2024 further fuels speculation surrounding this re-release.

The ESRB's rating of Doom 64 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S adds further credence to this theory. The physical release of the Doom Slayers Collection included a download code for Doom 64, suggesting a connection between the two. This aligns with Bethesda's past practice of re-releasing titles on newer platforms, as seen with the combined "Doom + Doom II" package for current-gen consoles. Similarly, id Software has a history of porting its games to the latest consoles, as evidenced by the Quake II port.

Beyond the potential return of the Doom Slayers Collection, fans can look forward to Doom: The Dark Ages, a highly anticipated prequel slated for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025. This medieval-themed entry promises a fresh perspective on the long-running sci-fi franchise.
