Take-Two Interactive, the publisher behind Grand Theft Auto VI, is increasingly confident in a Fall 2025 release window. Let's delve into the details surrounding this highly anticipated title and the broader success of Take-Two's portfolio.
Grand Theft Auto VI remains on track for a Fall 2025 release. During Take-Two Interactive's Q3 Earnings Conference Call on February 7, 2025, CEO Strauss Zelnick reiterated this target, tempering expectations with the caveat that unforeseen development needs might necessitate a slight delay. While expressing strong confidence, he acknowledged the inherent risks associated with predicting release dates, emphasizing Rockstar's commitment to delivering a polished product. He highlighted the company's excitement and the intense competition within the gaming industry.
Zelnick highlighted 2025 as a pivotal year for Take-Two, emphasizing a robust release schedule. This includes the recent Early Access launch of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII (with full release February 11th), Mafia: The Old Country (Summer release), Grand Theft Auto VI (Fall release), and Borderlands 4 (before year-end). He expressed significant optimism about the commercial potential of these titles and their long-term impact on the company and the industry. Take-Two projects record-breaking net bookings for fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
The Grand Theft Auto franchise continues to dominate, with GTA 5 surpassing 210 million units sold worldwide. GTA Online also enjoyed a strong quarter, boosted by the "Agents of Sabotage" holiday update and continued growth of the GTA+ membership program (up 10% year-over-year).
Other Take-Two titles also performed exceptionally well. NBA 2K25 sold over 7 million units, exhibiting significant growth in player engagement. Red Dead Redemption 2, having sold over 70 million units, continues to thrive, with Red Dead Online seeing a surge in concurrent players on Steam (reaching 99,993 according to SteamDB).
Speculation surrounding Steven Ogg, the actor who portrayed Trevor in GTA 5, and his alleged dislike for the character has been addressed. In an interview on the Inside You podcast, Ogg clarified that the rumors are unfounded, explaining that his aversion was to being called "Trevor" outside of his acting role, not to the character itself. He emphasized his positive experience and friendship with his co-stars. While he previously mused about Trevor's potential appearance (and demise) in GTA 6, he confirmed he hasn't been involved in any recording sessions for the upcoming game.
Grand Theft Auto VI is currently slated for a Fall 2025 release, though a precise date remains unannounced. Stay tuned for further updates.
