Exciting news for fans of the iconic anime and toy franchise, Mobile Suit Gundam: a live-action film adaptation is now in full production, thanks to a co-financing agreement between Bandai Namco and Legendary. Announced back in 2018, updates on the project have been scarce until now. With the establishment of Bandai Namco Filmworks America, enthusiasts can finally start anticipating the debut of the first-ever live-action Gundam movie on the big screen.

The film, which has yet to receive an official title, will be penned and directed by Kim Mickle, known for her work on Sweet Tooth. It is slated for a global theatrical release, promising to bring the epic world of Mobile Suit Gundam to new audiences worldwide.

Mobile Suit Gundam Live Action Film

This marks the first live-action venture for a franchise that boasts an impressive legacy with 25 anime series, 34 animated films, 27 original anime productions, and a highly successful toy line, generating over $900 million annually. While specific details such as release dates and plot are still under wraps, a teaser poster has been unveiled to keep the excitement brewing.

"We plan to steadily announce details as they become finalized," stated Legendary and Bandai Namco. They further elaborated on the significance of the franchise, saying, "Mobile Suit Gundam, which began broadcasting in 1979, established the genre of 'real robot anime' that could not be described in terms of simple good and evil, which had been the trend of robot anime up to that point, with realistic depictions of war, detailed scientific examinations, and intricately interwoven human dramas that treated robots as 'weapons' called 'mobile suits,' and caused a huge boom."
