Hasbro SVP Teases Quick Updates on Baldur's Gate's Future

by Blake Apr 15,2025

It's been a year and a half since the release of *Baldur's Gate 3*, and fans are still deeply engaged, often embarking on multiple playthroughs. With developer Larian Studios stepping away from the series, the future of *Baldur's Gate* now rests in the hands of Hasbro. Fortunately, it seems we won't have to wait long for updates on the franchise's direction.

In a recent interview with IGN at the Game Developers Conference, Dan Ayoub, SVP of digital games at Hasbro, shared that there is significant interest in *Baldur's Gate* from various parties. "We're kind of working out our plans for the future and what we're going to be doing with that. And actually, in pretty short order, we're going to have some stuff to talk about around that," he stated. While Ayoub didn't specify whether this would be a new *Baldur's Gate* game or perhaps a crossover like the previous collaboration with *Magic: The Gathering*, he did express a desire for a *Baldur's Gate 4*. However, he emphasized that creating such a game would take time.

Ayoub described the situation as "somewhat of an unenviable position," highlighting the need for a careful and measured approach. "We're not in a hurry," he said, indicating that Hasbro has numerous plans and is starting to explore different avenues. He hinted that announcements could be forthcoming, without over-teasing the specifics.

He also acknowledged the immense pressure to ensure the next *Baldur's Gate* meets expectations, which extends to other *Dungeons & Dragons*-related projects. Ayoub views this challenge as an opportunity to elevate creativity. "I'm never one to shy down from a challenge," he remarked, noting that high expectations push developers to innovate and strive for excellence.

In addition to discussing *Baldur's Gate*, Ayoub touched on other topics such as *Magic: The Gathering*, the partnership with Saber Interactive, and Hasbro's overall game strategy. A full interview covering these subjects will be available next week.
