James Bond audition tapes from 2005 have surfaced online, showcasing Henry Cavill's interpretation of the iconic spy before he was ultimately outshone by Daniel Craig for the role. According to Games Radar, these intriguing clips were shared on the Ron South YouTube channel, run by a passionate filmmaker with 1,890 subscribers. The channel also featured audition tapes from other notable actors such as Sam Worthington, Rupert Friend, and Anthony Starr.

Among these, it's Henry Cavill's audition that has captured the most interest over time. Many in the industry, including Casino Royale director Martin Campbell, have lauded Cavill's performance, with Campbell describing it as "tremendous." In fact, Campbell reportedly favored Cavill for the role of 007, but the final decision favored Daniel Craig, thanks to the preferences of other key decision-makers.

Despite missing out on the Bond role, Cavill embraced the spy genre in the film Argylle, where he took on the lead role alongside a stellar cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine O’Hara. Unfortunately, the movie didn't fare well with critics, receiving a modest 4/10 from IGN despite its high-profile ensemble.

Cavill's career, however, continues to thrive with diverse roles. He has portrayed Superman in DC's cinematic universe, Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher series, and has taken on numerous other compelling characters, showcasing his versatility and enduring appeal in the entertainment industry.
