Exciting news for League of Legends fans: Hextech Chests are making a triumphant return following widespread fan feedback. Dive in to discover more about the upcoming updates and what's on the horizon for LoL.
League of Legends (LoL) has listened to its community and is bringing back Hextech Chests. On February 27, 2025, Riot Games shared a detailed developer update on their website, complemented by a dev update video on their YouTube channel.
Riot Games acknowledged that recent changes didn't resonate well with the player base, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."
The return of Hextech Chests was a significant request from fans. LoL explained, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."
Starting with patch 25.05, players will be able to earn up to 10 Hextech Chests and keys per act. Eight of these chests will be available through the free pass, with the remaining two obtainable via the Honor system.
Riot Games has also announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, stating the team needs "more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." This delay extends to the entire Exalted skin line, meaning fans won't see a new skin in every Act this year as originally planned.
In response to further fan feedback, LoL will replace one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence. This decision comes from clear feedback indicating a lack of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and an excess of champions for each seasonal theme.
To enhance accessibility, the cost of all champions in terms of Blue Essence will be reduced by 50% starting with patch 25.05, addressing recent discussions about blue essence and champion shards.
Additionally, Riot Games has reversed its decision to reduce the frequency of Clash events. The game will return to a monthly Clash schedule, with March featuring an ARURF event and April hosting a regular Summoner's Rift Clash.
Responding to community requests, LoL will bring back the popular Your Shop and Blue Essence Emporium. Your Shop is scheduled for patch 25.06, and the Emporium will follow in patch 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
With these responsive changes, Riot Games demonstrates a dedication to listening to their fans and adapting the game to better meet their expectations. League of Legends remains free-to-play on PC. Stay updated with the latest news on our League of Legends page.
