Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has expressed his enthusiasm for a potential live-action adaptation of the game, envisioning a project that would reunite him with Keanu Reeves. Dive deeper to discover more about his vision for this exciting collaboration!
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Idris Elba shared his thoughts on the possibility of a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 movie. This conversation took place ahead of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where Elba will reprise his role as Knuckles the Echidna, and Keanu Reeves will join as Shadow the Hedgehog. Elba expressed his enthusiasm about the idea, stating, "Oh, man, that's a great question. I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077], and I think his character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa.’ So, let's speak that into existence."
Keanu Reeves portrayed the iconic rockstar Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, while Idris Elba brought to life the seasoned FIA sleeper agent Solomon Reed in the 2023 DLC, Phantom Liberty. Their potential reunion in a live-action setting has fans buzzing with excitement.
This dream project seems more attainable than ever, especially following Variety's report in October 2023 that CD Projekt Red (CDPR) is collaborating with Anonymous Content on a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project. While a year has passed without further updates, the success of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners animated series and the live-action adaptation of The Witcher 3, which has completed five seasons, suggest that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is well within reach.
In other exciting news for Cyberpunk enthusiasts, the franchise's acclaimed animated series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, continues to expand its universe. The first chapter of the prequel manga, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, is now available in select languages, including Japanese, Polish, Italian, German, Spanish, and French, with Traditional Chinese set to follow on December 20th. English fans will have to wait a bit longer for their version.
Written by Bartosz Sztybor, who serves as both the anime's producer and CDPR's comic book and animation narrative director, MADNESS delves into the backstory of Rebecca and Pilar before they joined Maine's squad.
Additionally, fans can look forward to a Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners in 2025, offering another chance to relive the adventures of David and Lucy. And don't forget to keep an eye out for the new Cyberpunk 2077 animated series that CDPR has teased previously. With so much in the works, the future looks bright for Cyberpunk fans.
