The highly anticipated sequel, *Mortal Kombat 2*, has unveiled exciting new character images, stirring up the fanbase. Entertainment Weekly recently showcased the first looks at several key figures set to appear in the film, including Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, alongside the return of Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting Karl Urban's portrayal of Johnny Cage, especially after his image appeared in an in-universe poster for a Cage movie. The newly released image captures Urban in a fresh-faced look, sporting Cage's signature hairstyle and sunglasses, striking a typical martial arts pose. In the background, familiar faces like Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, and Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade add to the excitement.

Entertainment Weekly also featured a comment from Ed Boon, the creator of the *Mortal Kombat* series, discussing Johnny Cage's integration into the film's narrative. "His integration into the Mortal Kombat story and universe is a big part of what this movie explores," Boon stated. He highlighted how Urban brings a fresh take on the character, describing Cage as a "washed-up Hollywood guy thrown into this magical, ultra-violent thing." Boon teased a "ridiculously hilarious" introduction for Cage, while director Simon McQuoid emphasized the character's depth, saying, "We wanted a character that wasn't just completely silly, comic book… It's a character that could instantly go there and become too light and throwaway if we were to lean too much into the kind of cheese. The casting of Karl Urban for that role allowed that character to have more depth."
In addition to the new character reveals, Entertainment Weekly confirmed that movie-accurate skins for Urban's Johnny, Rudolph's Kitana, and Ford's Shao Kahn will be available in *Mortal Kombat 1* later this year.
The film also brings back some unexpected faces. Damon Herriman joins the cast as Quan Chi, while Josh Lawson and Max Huang reprise their roles as Kano and Kung Lao, despite their characters' demise in the first movie. Boon explained this by referencing the game's lore, stating, "So we deal with spirits and the NetherRealm and things like that... There are ways to bring dead characters back."
Newcomers Tati Gabrielle as Jade and Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel round out the cast. *Mortal Kombat 2* is set to hit theaters on October 24, 2025, promising an action-packed and thrilling continuation of the iconic franchise.
