Alleged Leaks Surface for the Upcoming Jet Set Radio Remake
Images purportedly from Sega's highly anticipated Jet Set Radio remake have emerged online, igniting excitement among fans. The remake, confirmed by Sega last December as part of a broader initiative to revitalize classic titles, has remained largely shrouded in secrecy since its initial announcement at the 2023 Game Awards.
However, information – reportedly from Sega leaker Midori – has trickled out over recent months. Midori, known for sharing details on various Sega projects including Crazy Taxi, Virtua Fighter, and Golden Axe remakes, previously indicated that Jet Set Radio would see both a reboot (a live-service game with events and customization) and a separate remake.
The leaked images, shared on Twitter by user MSKAZZY69 and attributed to Midori, showcase four screenshots seemingly from the remake's development build. These include map views and gameplay shots. MSKAZZY69 further described the remake as a "complete overhaul of the original, distinct from the reboot," suggesting an open-world design. This aligns with Midori's previous claims of an open-world environment, graffiti mechanics, shooting gameplay, and a fresh storyline.
Further fueling speculation, a YouTube video surfaced showing alleged gameplay footage. The video's art style and graphics closely resemble the leaked screenshots, both displaying updated, more realistic character models and environments. The footage depicts protagonist Beat engaging in graffiti art, executing skate tricks, and exploring Tokyo's vibrant setting.
Despite this flurry of leaked material, Sega remains officially silent, and the remake's release remains several years out, with a projected launch no earlier than 2026. While the authenticity of these leaks remains unconfirmed – especially given Midori's recent social media absence – the leaked images and video have undeniably generated considerable buzz.
The potential Jet Set Radio remake is just one of several classic Sega titles reportedly undergoing revival, including Alex Kidd and House of the Dead. While Sega's commitment to revisiting its nostalgic catalog is clear, until official confirmation arrives, all unofficial updates should be treated with caution.
