Madden NFL 25 Gets Hefty Update

Summary

  • Title Update 6 for Madden NFL 25 introduces over 800 playbook updates, gameplay improvements, and the customizable PlayerCard feature.
  • Some of the newly added offensive playbooks in Madden NFL 25 were inspired by real-life plays from recent games.
  • The PlayerCard allows players to choose a background, player picture, border, and badge, which will be displayed during Madden NFL 25 online matches.

EA Sports has rolled out Title Update 6 for Madden NFL 25, marking one of the game's most significant updates to date. This patch brings over 800 playbook updates, gameplay enhancements, and new features aimed at boosting realism. A notable addition is the PlayerCard and NFL Team Pass, enabling players to personalize their in-game cards based on their favorite NFL teams.

Following the successful launch of EA Sports College Football 25, Electronic Arts aimed to replicate that success with Madden NFL 25. Despite being a top-seller in its launch month, the game garnered mixed reviews from players. However, EA has been proactive, continuously releasing updates to refine gameplay, introduce new playbooks, tweak the BOOM tech, and address bugs and issues.

Title Update 6 stands out with its extensive playbook updates, gameplay adjustments, and the introduction of the PlayerCard feature. The update includes over 800 changes across all teams, mirroring the playstyles seen during the NFL regular season. Some new offensive playbooks draw inspiration from real-life plays, such as Justin Jefferson's 97-yard Week Two touchdown.

Key gameplay adjustments include reducing the accuracy of high-throw mechanics and increasing the force needed for tackle knockouts. Additionally, the guaranteed catch chance on interception attempts has been enhanced by lowering the required player rating threshold. The highlight, as per EA, is the new PlayerCard and NFL Team Pass features, which offer a personalized customization experience.

The PlayerCard feature lets players select a background, player picture, border, and badge, which are showcased during online matches. The NFL Team Pass is an objective-based system where players select a team and complete tasks to unlock themed customization items. According to the official patch notes, acquiring NFL Team Pass content involves both in-game purchases and gameplay.

The update also focuses on enhancing the game's authenticity by improving the likeness of head coaches for the New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears, along with adding new cleats, face masks, and face scans for various athletes. Title Update 6 for Madden NFL 25 is now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Madden NFL 25 Title Update 6 Patch Notes

Gameplay

  • Increased the force necessary to cause a physics-based knockout on interception attempts, reducing dropped interceptions.
    • DEV NOTE: We’ve noted lots of feedback regarding too many dropped interceptions. We found that many of the drops were a result of physics-based catch knockouts. In this Title Update, we have increased the force needed to cause a catch knockout on interceptions, resulting in fewer drops. This adjustment applies when playing on Competitive Game Style.
  • Lowered the ratings threshold needed for a guaranteed catch chance on interception attempts on Competitive Game Style.
  • Updated the ‘Throwing Dots’ achievement description to detail the unlocking criteria accurately.
  • Reduced the accuracy of High Throw mechanic passes on Competitive Game Style.
    • DEV NOTE: We are reducing pass accuracy for high throws to balance gameplay between offense and defense, based on player feedback. The mechanic remains effective, but its success rate has been adjusted. This adjustment applies when playing on Competitive Game Style.
  • Prevented user-controlled ball carriers from diving when their Ball Carrier Coaching Adjustment is set to Conservative.
    • DEV NOTE: Users can still slide and give up when their Ball-Carrier Coach Adjustment is set to Conservative, but the high leaping dive animation is no longer available. Regardless of whether the user taps or holds X/Square, they will only be able to Slide or Give up.
  • Increased the chance of catch knockouts when a receiver is hit immediately after the catch point.
    • DEV NOTE: Feedback indicated that wide receivers, running backs, and tight ends were holding onto too many catches when hit hard right after the catch. This update aims to ensure that skilled Catch-In-Traffic receivers retain their catches, while less skilled ones are more likely to lose the ball on those bang-bang plays. This adjustment applies when playing on Competitive Game Style.
  • Fixed a physics-based tackling issue that caused the ball carrier to spin on the ground after a hit stick.
  • Addressed an issue where the outside receiver on the Gun Trips Slot Close: Blast play had the wrong assignment and failed to block correctly.
