Get ready, Star Wars fans! Marvel Comics is relaunching its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, picking up after the epic Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. This new series will follow Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they strive to build the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Alex Segura, writer of the acclaimed Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, takes the helm, crafting a narrative illustrated by the talented Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron). Noto, alongside Leinil Yu, will provide the stunning cover art for the first issue.
Set approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, Segura and Noto's Star Wars series plunges into a hopeful, yet precarious era. The New Republic attempts to establish its authority, but faces immediate challenges from opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other emerging threats exploiting the power vacuum. It's a thrilling blend of familiar faces and exciting new conflicts.
“Now that we’ve concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can propel forward into a new, uncharted era, introducing fresh galactic threats, adversaries, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to confront,” Segura shared with StarWars.com. “These stories will be brimming with action and the heartfelt character moments Star Wars fans adore, offering intriguing twists on the familiar galaxy, while ensuring accessibility for new readers. We're incredibly excited!”
“Alex is an exceptional writer, crafting compelling storylines and new characters for this series, and I'm thrilled to bring them to life,” Noto added. “It's also been a fantastic experience illustrating the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, as there are no existing film or TV counterparts to reference. I get to create new visual interpretations while drawing inspiration from the actors' 80s appearances to maintain the feel of this timeline.”
Star Wars #1 blasts off on May 7, 2025, perfectly timed for this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic adventure. In February, they'll launch Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, delving into Kylo Ren's journey following the events of The Last Jedi. Stay tuned for more updates on the future of the Star Wars franchise!
