Nintendo Switch 2 Fans Think They've Figured Out the New Physical Game Case Size

by David Feb 28,2025

Recent speculation surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 has shifted from the console itself to the size of its game cases. A French retailer, Fnac, seemingly leaked the dimensions of a Take-Two Interactive game for the upcoming console, sparking discussion among fans.

According to Nintendo Life, journalist Felipe Lima discovered the listing, which indicates that Switch 2 game boxes will be slightly larger than those of the original Switch. A Reddit user, HertzBurst, created a visual comparison showcasing the difference in size. The leaked dimensions are reportedly 5.1 inches (13 centimeters) by 7.7 inches (19.5 centimeters).

While larger than the current Switch cases, the proposed dimensions are still considerably smaller than those used for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 games. Although unconfirmed, it's plausible that retailers would receive these size specifications early to prepare for stocking and display.

The Nintendo Switch 2's release date remains unannounced by Nintendo, but speculation points towards a launch between June and September. This timeframe is supported by several factors, including ongoing hands-on events and a statement from Nacon, the publisher of Greedfall 2, suggesting a pre-September release.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was initially unveiled in January with a short trailer highlighting backward compatibility and the inclusion of a second USB-C port. Many details, including the functionality of a new Joy-Con button, remain undisclosed, though various theories continue to circulate.
