A Pokemon fan created a Mega Evolution for the Normal/Flying-type Toucannon and shared the concept online. The Pokemon series currently has 48 Mega Evolutions, 30 of which were introduced when the mechanic debuted in the Generation 6 entries, Pokemon X and Y, while the rest were added via the 2014 remakes of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire for the Nintendo 3DS family of handhelds.
Mega Evolutions are temporary transformations that change a character's appearance, improve their statistics, and provide them with new skills. Among those who can Mega Evolve are some of Pokemon's most recognizable monsters like Lucario, Mewtwo and, Charizard, with the latter two even having two Mega forms each. As Game Freak's long-running RPG series already has more than 1,000 Pokemon, it should come as no surprise that some fans have come up with custom Mega Evolutions for the monsters that do not officiallly have access to such transformations.
Posting on the Pokemon subreddit, user Just-Drawing-Mons shared their Mega Evolution concept for Toucannon, the regional bird of Alola that is the final form of Pikipek and Trumbeak. Like the official Mega Evolutions, Just-Drawing-Mons' original Mega Toucannon sports a different appearance than its base design, the most prominent change being the scope-like protrusion on its beak. Some Mega Evolutions also alter a Pokemon's attributes, but Just-Drawing-Mons did not mention if there were any such changes in their Mega Evolution idea for Toucannon.
Fan-Made Pokemon Mega Evolutions
Just-Drawing-Mons' other original designs include a Mega Evolution of Skarmory, a Steel/Flying-type that was added in Pokemon's second generation. Aside from creating custom Mega forms, the Reddit user has also given some characters interesting redesigns. One such work was Just-Drawing-Mons' Fighting-type version of Alakazam, the Pokemon that is considered to be the best Psychic-type among the series' initial 151 monsters.
Mega Evolutions, which also appeared in the spin-offs Pokemon GO, Pokemon Masters EX, and Pokemon Unite, will make their long-awaited mainline series return in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Set in Lumiose City, an area in the sixth-generation games' Kalos region, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is scheduled to launch on the Switch in 2025.
Some Pokemon that fans want to receive a Mega Evolution in the series' next major installment are Dragonite, one of the first generation's strongest non-Legendary monsters; the Generation 6 starters, Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie; as well as Flygon. The latter was actually supposed to receive a Mega form in Pokemon X and Y, but the Pokemon franchise's primary character designer, Ken Sugimori, said the development team was unable to complete the design.
