Pokemon TCG Pocket Sleep: Status Update

by Michael Mar 12,2025

In Pokémon TCG Pocket, Sleep is the most frustrating status condition. It completely shuts down your Pokémon, preventing attacks, abilities, and retreats. While there's a cure, the randomness involved can significantly impact your game.

What Does Sleep Mean in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

When a Pokémon is Asleep, it's completely incapacitated. It can't attack, use abilities, or retreat. Essentially, your active Pokémon becomes a helpless target.

How to Cure Sleep

There are two primary ways to wake up a sleeping Pokémon: a successful coin flip each turn, or evolution. The coin flip offers a chance of recovery each turn, potentially freeing your Pokémon quickly. However, consecutive unlucky flips can leave your Pokémon stuck in slumber for multiple turns, potentially costing you the game. While you can prepare alternative attackers or hope for an evolution, your opponent might capitalize on your weakened position. A less common method involves the Koga Trainer card, which can return a sleeping Weezing or Muk to your hand.

Hypno stands out due to its ability to inflict Sleep from the bench, making it a potent support card for Psychic decks, complementing powerful attackers like Mewtwo ex and potentially Gardevoir. While Frosmoth and Wigglytuff ex can be incorporated into other decks, Hypno's effectiveness without hindering your overall strategy makes it currently the most competitive Sleep card.
