The Hollow Knight community has once again plunged into speculation, fueled by the social media activity of the game's creator, William Pellen, around the time of the Switch 2 reveal on January 16, 2025.

On January 15, Pellen teased fans on Twitter (X), posting, "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow." This cryptic message likely hinted at the upcoming Switch 2 announcement on January 16. Naturally, fans immediately began questioning whether this could mean news about Silksong’s release. Pellen's subsequent actions only intensified the speculation.

On the day of the Switch 2 announcement, which promised a direct release on April 2, 2025, fans noticed Pellen had changed his profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search revealed that the image was from a Bon Appetit article about a Brooklyn Blackout Cake, published on April 2, 2024.

Adding to the intrigue, Pellen commented on the article with "mmmm tasty," sparking a flurry of fan interactions. One dedicated fan vowed, "if we get real silksong news by April 2nd 2025, I will bake this cake." Another fan reviewed the recipe, saying, "Loved the silky texture. This goes directly in my favourite recipes," cleverly weaving in references to the game and the upcoming Nintendo Direct.

While it's impossible to confirm if Pellen himself left the comment on the cake recipe, his profile picture change is undeniable. He might be hinting at something, though it could also be nothing more than a playful tease.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Official Announcement Five Years Ago

Silksong Speculations Rage (Again) Because of a Cake

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced on February 14, 2019, intended for release across multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. As a sequel to the beloved Hollow Knight, Silksong follows the journey of Hornet in a new kingdom dominated by silk and song.

In December 2019, Team Cherry gave fans a glimpse of Hollow Knight’s soundtrack, crafted by Christopher Larkin. Following this, the development team went quiet for over two years.

The silence was broken in February 2022 when Pellen reassured fans that Silksong was still being developed, promising more details as the release date approached. That June, Team Cherry unveiled a new trailer during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, showcasing fresh gameplay and confirming the game's inclusion in Game Pass upon launch.

Despite expectations for a 2023 release, Matthew Griffin of Team Cherry announced in May 2023 that the game would be delayed. "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing," he stated. "We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

Even after more than five years, the Hollow Knight fanbase remains vibrant and engaged, actively participating in community forums and eagerly seeking any updates on Silksong. Since the delay announcement, little new information has surfaced, except for assurances that the development team continues to work diligently on the game.
