Ubisoft Responds to Assassin's Creed Shadows Leak

by Sophia Mar 15,2025

On February 24th, news broke of a significant leak: Assassin's Creed Shadows appeared online, with numerous individuals streaming gameplay a month before its official March 20th release.

Over the weekend, as highlighted by the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, deleted social media posts revealed physical copies being sold prematurely, and multiple unauthorized streams surfaced on platforms like Twitch.

Ubisoft, the developer and publisher, acknowledged the leak on the Assassin's Creed subreddit, urging players to refrain from spoiling the game for others. They stated that the development team is actively working on pre-launch patches, and that currently available online footage doesn't reflect the final game quality.

Ubisoft emphasized the negative impact of leaks on player anticipation, thanking the community for efforts to prevent spoilers. Their statement concluded with a plea to avoid spoilers and a reminder of the upcoming March 20th launch date.

This leak adds to Ubisoft's recent challenges with the Assassin's Creed franchise. The team previously apologized for unauthorized use of a historical recreation group's flag and for historical inaccuracies in Assassin's Creed Shadows' depiction of Japan.

Assassin's Creed Shadows' release date has been subject to multiple delays, shifting from November to February 14th, and finally to March 20th. Given Ubisoft's recent struggles with underwhelming sales and investor concerns, the game's success is crucial for the company.
