Ygwulf's Fate in Avowed: Kill or Spare?

Ygwulf

In the opening chapters of *Avowed*'s main quest, the Envoy suffers a tragic assassination. After unraveling the mystery behind their own murder, the player discovers that the assassin is Ygwulf, a member of the Paradisan Rebels who oppose Aedyr's presence in the region. As the Emperor's Envoy, you become a prime target for this faction. Your journey leads you to track down Ygwulf and his group to their underground hideout, where you'll need to overcome numerous enemies and navigate challenging platforming sections. Make sure to stock up on Health Potions and equip your best gear for this endeavor.

As you explore the dungeon, you might come across documents that shed light on Ygwulf's motivations and his growing remorse. Initially driven by misguided visions that he believed were from the Gods, Ygwulf comes to regret his actions against the Envoy. Even without these documents, he will express his remorse when you confront him at the end of the quest. Despite his apologies, he is prepared to face justice for what he has done.

What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In?

Choosing to have Ygwulf turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is the least favorable option. If you direct him to do so, he will face the brutal Inquisitor Lödwyn, leading to a painful death. This choice, however, yields fewer rewards compared to sparing him or defeating him in combat. If you decide to spare Ygwulf, he will offer you 625 Copper Skeyt and some Adra as a token of gratitude. Although these resources won't change your life, they can be helpful. Sadly, even if you spare him, Ygwulf's fate remains sealed, and he will be killed later in the story.

Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed

Considering Ygwulf's inevitable demise, opting to attack him during your dialogue is the most beneficial choice. This decision triggers a boss fight, providing valuable combat practice for future encounters in *Avowed*. Additionally, defeating Ygwulf grants you the best rewards among the three options. Upon his defeat, you can loot his body for currency, Adra, and his unique armor set, Blackwing. Not only does Blackwing look impressive, but it also offers significant stealth advantages, including a +30% damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% movement speed increase when crouching, aiding in sneaking past enemies.

Does Ygwulf's Fate Affect the Story in Avowed? SPOILER WARNING

Despite being encountered early in the game, Ygwulf's fate does have a minor impact on *Avowed*'s ending. After completing the final section of the game, you'll see artwork and narration that highlight how your choices have influenced the world of Eora in the Living Lands. Regardless of your efforts to unify the Living Lands and bring peace, Ygwulf's death will always occur, fueling the radicalization of the Paradisan Rebellion and ensuring they continue to resist your efforts even after the credits roll.
