Whether you're exploring new destinations or welcoming visitors to Japan, VoiceTra serves as your personal speech translator, available for free download and supporting 31 languages.

VoiceTra leverages advanced speech recognition, translation, and speech synthesis technologies developed by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT). This app translates your spoken words into various languages and outputs the results in a synthesized voice, making it easy to communicate with others. The translation direction can be switched instantly, enabling two people speaking different languages to use a single device for effective communication. For languages without speech input support, text input is available.

VoiceTra is ideally suited for travel-related conversations, making it perfect for various situations and locations such as:

• Transportation: Bus, train, rent-a-car, taxi, airport, transit
• Shopping: Restaurant, shopping, payment

Restrictions and Considerations:

To use VoiceTra, an internet connection is required, and the speed of translation may vary based on network conditions. Text input is supported for languages that the OS keyboard can handle. Proper display of characters depends on the installation of appropriate fonts on your device. Please be aware that the application or some of its functions may be unavailable if the server is down. Users are responsible for any communication fees, including potentially high international data roaming charges.

VoiceTra was developed for research purposes to be tested by individuals during travel, utilizing servers set up for research. The data collected on these servers will contribute to the improvement of speech translation technologies. While you may test the app for business purposes, for continuous use, consider private services that have licensed our technology.
