In recent years, anticipation for a The Last of Us sequel has been palpable online. Despite mixed reactions to the second game, many hoped Naughty Dog would address criticisms in a potential Part III or explore the universe through a spin-off. However, Neil Druckmann recently made a surprising statement.
In a joint interview with screenwriter Craig Mazin, Druckmann discussed both the HBO adaptation and the games themselves. He revealed his struggles following the sequel's release during the COVID-19 pandemic. Feeling unwell and isolated, he found himself overwhelmed by online discussions and reviews, questioning his work and its reception. The constant exposure to criticism led him to doubt the quality of his creation.
When asked about a possible third installment, Druckmann sighed, acknowledging the inevitable question. He stated, however, that fans shouldn't expect another The Last of Us game, hinting that the story may be concluded.
