DOOM, DOOM 2 Get Surprise Update

While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM and DOOM II. Good news for fans: development has resumed, and a recent update significantly enhances the experience.

This update for the DOOM + DOOM II compilation focuses on technical improvements and more. Crucially, it now supports multiplayer modifications. Mods created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM are compatible. Cooperative play has also received a boost, allowing all players to pick up items. A new observer mode is available for players who die while in cooperative mode, letting them watch until revived. Multiplayer network code has been optimized for smoother online play, and the mod loader can now handle over 100 subscribed mods.

Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer extensive customization options, exceeding those in previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the team's commitment to making the game accessible to a wide range of players.

Players will be able to fine-tune various aspects, adjusting enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and even influencing the game's overall pace, aggression level, and parry timing. Stratton also confirmed that prior knowledge of previous DOOM titles isn't required to understand the narratives in DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal.
