How to Start the Hermit Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

The Hermit quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 becomes available after you've completed tasks for the blacksmith Radovan. Once you've successfully located the lost cart, report back to Radovan. He'll express his desire to forge a sword as a wedding gift, initiating the Hermit questline. Before you can confront the hermit, you'll need to gather information from the villagers in Troskowitz.

Get Information About the Hermit

Start your journey at the tavern in Troskowitz, where you should speak with Innkeeper Betty and explore all dialogue options. To gather more insights, engage with other villagers. In my playthrough, I found the alehouse maid and the general trader particularly informative.

Talk to Gerda and Stanislav

Next, seek out Gerda in Troskowitz, who claims to have witnessed the apparition. You can either persuade her with a small amount of Groschen or succeed in a dialogue check to obtain the necessary information.

Afterwards, travel to Apollonia to meet Stanislav. Similarly, you'll need to either pass a dialogue check or pay him with Groschen to learn more.

Gather Evidence

Armed with your initial findings, it's time to collect solid evidence. Head to the cross mentioned by Gerda and dig the grave to uncover Groschen, documents, and artifacts related to the Knights of the Cross. Remember, you'll need a spade for this task, which can be purchased from the general trader in Troskowitz or found in nearby cemetery areas.

After examining the documents, proceed to the quest marker in Apollonia. You'll find a hut and a clearing with a black horse. Inspecting the horse will provide your next clue, preparing you for a confrontation with the hermit.

Talk to the Hermit

Make your way to the hermit's hut and engage him in conversation. Without prior evidence, he won't be forthcoming. However, with your collected clues, he'll be more open to discussion.

Choose the following dialogue options:

  • "You’re suspicious."
  • Exhaust all dialogue options about the clues and evidence.
  • "Out with it!"

The hermit, actually named Konrad, will confess that he's not Ambrose. He'll ask you to deliver a cross to a widow named Margaret before he'll surrender the sword.

Visit the cemetery near Apollonia to meet Margaret and give her the cross, triggering the Sinful Soul quest. You can choose to help her dig a grave for Ambrose immediately or return to Konrad later.

Help Konrad or Kill Him

Upon returning to the hermit's hut, you'll encounter Crusaders nearby. You now have the choice to either assist the Crusaders in killing Konrad or help Konrad escape.

Sneak to the hut and inform Konrad that you've completed the task. Ask about the sword's location. You can decide to either help Konrad or kill him. In my experience, killing Konrad is less challenging, especially with Mutt and the Crusaders' support.

After defeating Konrad, speak with the Crusaders and offer to return the documents for a small sum of Groschen.

Get the Hermit’s Sword

Finally, head north of the hermit's hut to find two intertwined oak trees. The hermit's sword will be embedded in the ground there. Retrieve it and return to Radovan in Tachov to complete the quest.

That's how you can obtain the hermit's sword and successfully complete the Hermit quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. For more tips and detailed guides on the game, including the best perks to acquire and all romance options, be sure to check out The Escapist.
