Lunar Remastered Collection Release Date Announced

Summary

  • The Lunar Remastered Collection launches April 18th on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S compatibility.
  • The collection boasts fully voiced dialogue, a classic mode, and enhanced quality-of-life features like faster combat and auto-battle.

The highly anticipated Lunar Remastered Collection, developed by Game Arts and published by GungHo Online Entertainment, arrives April 18th. This duology brings the first two Lunar games to modern consoles and PC (via Steam), featuring updated graphics, a re-recorded soundtrack, and numerous quality-of-life improvements.

Initially announced during a 2024 Sony State of Play, the remaster surprised and delighted many JRPG fans. The original Lunar: The Silver Star debuted in 1992 for the Sega CD, followed by Lunar: Eternal Blue in 1994. Both received PlayStation and Sega Saturn remakes. Even today, the series is celebrated, making this remastered collection highly anticipated.

GungHo Online Entertainment confirmed the April 18th release date for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with compatibility for current-gen consoles. Physical copies will be available in select North American and European stores. The remaster includes widescreen support, enhanced pixel art, high-definition cutscenes, and a toggleable classic mode for a retro experience.

Further enhancements include fully voiced Japanese and English dialogue, with added French and German subtitles. Gameplay improvements include faster combat and streamlined auto-battle options, now standard in many remastered JRPGs (like Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and the upcoming Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster).

The Lunar remaster continues the trend of classic JRPGs finding new life on modern platforms. While its financial success remains to be seen, Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment's previous success with the Grandia HD Collection suggests a positive outlook.
