Nintendo Will Sell Loads of Switch 2 Consoles at Launch ‘Regardless of Price,’ Analysts Predict, June Release Date Once Again Mentioned

The Nintendo Switch 2's price is a major talking point in the gaming world. Analysts at IGN predict a $400 launch price, a figure echoed by a recent Bloomberg report citing Japan-based analysts. This would be significantly higher than the original Switch, with some analysts even suggesting a potential $499 price tag. However, the expectation is for massive launch sales, potentially the biggest console launch ever, regardless of the final price. Serkan Toto, a Tokyo-based analyst, told Bloomberg, "They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price."

This strong launch is anticipated due to a compelling lineup of launch titles. Toto predicts a new Mario Kart (as hinted by Nintendo), a new 3D Mario game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Metroid Prime 4, and Call of Duty from Activision all releasing within the first year. Numerous other third-party titles are rumored, with Firaxis (developers of Civilization 7) finding the Switch 2's Joy-Con mouse mode "definitely intriguing," according to IGN. Nacon, a French publisher, confirms it has Switch 2 games ready, and Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored. EA has also expressed interest in bringing Madden, FIFA, and The Sims to the platform. It's important to note that Activision hasn't officially confirmed Switch 2 plans, and Nintendo remains silent on the reports.

A June 2025 release date is gaining traction in both online and industry circles. Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein predicts a June launch with initial stock of 6-8 million units. Selling through this initial stock would easily surpass the sales of previous consoles like the original Switch and the PlayStation 4 and 5.

Concerns exist regarding the impact of past US tariffs on the Switch 2's price. However, Bloomberg points out that the console's assembly in Vietnam (a major US trading partner) and China helps mitigate these risks.

While much remains unknown, Nintendo plans a Direct presentation for April 2nd to reveal further details.

The January reveal showcased backwards compatibility and a second USB-C port. Other details, including the function of a new Joy-Con button, remain unclear, although a Joy-Con mouse theory has emerged. A recent Nintendo patent suggests the Joy-Cons can be attached upside down, utilizing gyro mechanics similar to smartphones.
