San Francisco 49ers Issue Statement on Dr Disrespect Situation

The San Francisco 49ers sever ties with Dr Disrespect following his admission of sending inappropriate messages to a minor. This is the latest in a series of sponsors dropping the streamer after details surrounding his 2020 Twitch ban emerged.

On June 21st, former Twitch executive Cody Conners alleged Dr Disrespect, real name Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV, was banned for "sexting a minor" via Twitch Whispers. Initially denying wrongdoing, Dr Disrespect later admitted to exchanging inappropriate messages with a minor on June 25th.

49ers End Partnership with Dr Disrespect

In response to this admission, the San Francisco 49ers terminated their relationship with Dr Disrespect. A 49ers representative told Digiday, "We take these developments seriously and will not be working with him going forward." With an estimated valuation of $6 billion, the 49ers represent the largest sponsor to cut ties with the streamer so far. While the financial impact is unclear, Dr Disrespect had collaborated extensively with the team, participating in marketing campaigns and even announcing draft picks.

This abrupt end to the partnership mirrors Dr Disrespect's 2020 departure from Twitch. The 49ers are not alone; Turtle Beach and Midnight Society (a game studio he co-founded) have also ended their relationships. Several past sponsors, including Mountain Dew, have indicated they have no plans for future collaborations.

Amidst this fallout, Dr Disrespect announced a streaming hiatus, stating in a June 25th statement his intention to return soon. However, the recent revelations significantly impact his future prospects.
