Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular third-person MOBA, has launched its free-to-play open beta on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Epic Games Store and Steam), and Steam Deck. Following a successful closed alpha, this open beta release includes a significant content update from Titan Forge Games, featuring new gods, a revamped game mode, and more.
Revealed a year ago and built using Unreal Engine 5, Smite 2 boasts significant improvements over its predecessor. Enhanced visuals and refined combat mechanics create a smoother, more engaging experience. A redesigned item shop offers greater flexibility, allowing players to equip items regardless of their chosen god's class. The core gameplay remains familiar: players choose gods from diverse cultures and engage in 5v5 battles to conquer the opposing team's base.
Beginning January 14th, players can download Smite 2's open beta for free. This update introduces Aladdin, a brand-new god designed specifically for Smite 2. Utilizing his unique wall-running abilities and a companion granting three wishes, including revival after death, Aladdin’s ultimate ability lets him trap enemies in a 1v1 duel using his magic lamp.
Joining Aladdin in the expanded god roster are Geb (Egyptian God of Earth), Mulan (Chinese Ascendant Warrior), Agni (Hindu Pantheon), and Ullr (Norse Pantheon). In addition to the new gods, the popular Joust mode makes a comeback, offering 3v3 battles on a smaller map. The Conquest and Assault game modes are also included in the open beta.
Titan Forge Games' creative director has stated that Smite 2 represents a significant improvement over the original Smite. The team expressed gratitude for the community feedback received during the closed alpha, and promised ambitious new content for Smite 2 throughout 2025.
While the open beta is available across major platforms, it's currently unavailable on Nintendo Switch due to performance concerns. However, Titan Forge Games has expressed interest in bringing Smite 2 to the Nintendo Switch 2 in the future. For now, Smite fans on other platforms can jump into the action and experience the open beta.
