Mobile game developer Mattel163 has introduced a groundbreaking update called Beyond Colors to three of its popular card games: Phase 10: World Tour, UNO! Mobile, and Skip-Bo Mobile. This update is designed to enhance inclusivity by introducing colorblind-friendly decks, which use basic shapes such as squares and triangles to represent traditional card colors. This innovative approach allows players with color vision deficiency to easily distinguish between different card colors, making the games more accessible to a broader audience.
To enable the Beyond Colors feature, players can simply tap their avatar in-game to access their account settings and select the Beyond Color deck under the card theme options. This simple adjustment opens up a world of gaming to those who might have previously found these games challenging due to colorblindness.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, approximately 300 million people worldwide are affected by colorblindness. By introducing these new deck options, Mattel163 is actively working to remove barriers and make their games, including UNO! Mobile, more accessible to everyone.
The development of the Beyond Color decks involved collaboration with gamers, including those with colorblindness, ensuring the symbols used are consistent across all three titles. This consistency makes it easier for players to adapt and master the new system. Mattel has also set an ambitious goal to make 80% of its games portfolio colorblind accessible by 2025, demonstrating a strong commitment to inclusivity.
UNO! Mobile brings the classic card game to mobile devices, where players race to be the first to discard all their cards. Phase 10: World Tour challenges players to complete each phase as quickly as possible, while Skip-Bo Mobile offers a unique twist on the traditional solitaire game.
All three games—UNO! Mobile, Skip-Bo Mobile, and Phase 10: World Tour—are available for download on the App Store and Google Play.
